We are an independent pre-primary school that has been loved and trusted by Kirstenhof families since our inception in 1984. We cater to children aged 3 – 6 and through our well thought-out and ever-evolving programme we help children develop in all learning areas. We place great emphasis on the importance of play and believe in nurturing each child as an individual to build self-esteem and confidence. Once those are in place, learning happens naturally.

About us
Established in 1984, Wise Owl’s reputation as one of the best preschools in Cape Town has stood the test of time. Nestled in the leafy suburb of Kirstenhof in Cape Town’s Southern Suburbs, our home-based school is child- and family-centred. We are passionate about contributing to the lives of the children and families who pass through our school and pride ourselves on bringing out the best in the children in our care. Our focus
At Wise Owl, we focus on all of the developmental areas and ensure that we provide plenty of opportunities for child-directed, incidental learning. Our programme is constantly evolving to keep up with our ever-changing world and incorporate best teaching practices.
Cognitive
We believe that children learn best through hands-on discovery. Skills are learned through weekly themes which are carefully designed to engage children through all their senses and help them to develop new knowledge, skills and abilities.
Speech & language
From singing songs and learning rhymes in the Ducklings group to discovering the joy of emergent reading in our Grade R group, our children are immersed in a language-rich environment. School should be fun, and our engaging language programme is no exception!
Social & emotional
Our teachers truly cherish the children in their care and place great emphasis on building up their self-esteem. We keep our group sizes small so that we can give each child the attention they deserve and focus on learning social skills and creating happy group environments.
Fine-motor skills
From rolling playdough to manipulating small toys, we create plenty of fun opportunities to develop the small muscles in little fingers. As our children progress, we introduce our exciting ‘Fun Fingers’ and ‘Muscle Mania’ programmes to ensure that they have all the skills they need for big school.
Gross-motor skills
Our large playground and expansive sandpit provide the ideal spaces for children to safely explore with friends whilst developing their physical skills. We believe that children benefit hugely from ‘old-fashioned play’ – climbing trees, digging holes and making mud pies are the order of the day.
